Policy & Prodedure for Charitable/Civic Giving

The Kiwanis Club of Baltimore City, Inc. and the Baltimore Kiwanis Trust Fund both engage in fund-raising for the purpose of supporting charitable and civic causes, primarily in the Baltimore City area. The Club is among the oldest civic organizations in the country, first established in 1918.

The emphasis of our giving programs are to benefit children and young people. Our giving is for charitable, educational and vocational purposes, to individuals and organizations, without regard to race, color, ethnic origin, religion or creed.

The Club and Trust actively encourage club members, organizations and other individuals to submit detailed written requests for contributions.

We require a detailed background statement of the goals, history, activities and general funding requirements of all applicants. Your written request must also include the specific contribution you seek, how it will be used, and if any contribution we make will be matched or supplemented from any other source. Be sure to include the name, address and telephone numbers of your contact person.We reserve the right to request further information, visit with you and check references concerning you or your organization. We strongly encourage a representative of your organization to visit our Club for one of our regular Thursday luncheon meetings to make a presentation concerning your activities. The decisions of the club's Board of Directors and Trustees of the Trust shall be final.

Our overall contribution budgets are determined on an annual basis in October of each year. Therefore, it would be helpful if your annual request is submitted to us before September 15th. The actual decisions as to our specific giving from the Club or Trust are usually made quarterly, and so your request and supporting materials must be received by the following deadlines: September 15th, December 15th, March 15th and June 15th. Requests are generally considered in the order they are received, and so we cannot guarantee funds will be available later in our giving year.
